Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures
by Mary Baker Eddy
"What is it that binds man with iron shackles to sin, sickness, and death?
Whatever enslaves man is opposed to the divine government.
Truth makes man free." |

The Sunday service opens with a hymn, a short reading from the Bible followed by silent prayer, and an invitation to all, to join in the audible repetition of the Lord's Prayer with its spiritual interpretation as given in Science and Health with key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy.
The major body of the service is found in the Weekly Bible Lesson of the Christian Science Quarterly. The passages in this sermon can be read throughout the week.
The service ends with a hymn followed by this passage from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures page 468: and it correlative verses in The K.J.V. Bible, I John 3:1-3
"There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all. Spirit is immortal Truth; matter is mortal error. Spirit is the real and eternal; matter is the unreal and temporal. Spirit is God, and man is His image and likeness. Therefore man is not material; he is spiritual."
"Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure." |

The K.J.V. Bible Luke 17:11-19
¶And it came to pass, as he went to Jerusalem, that he passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee. And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off: And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.
And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go shew yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed.
And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God, and fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks... |

The Bible and the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health, with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy are our only preachers. Christian Science is a religious movement that stresses spiritual healing. Founded by Mary Baker Eddy in New England in the late 1800's, it has deep roots in Protestant Christianity. Below you will find two quotes from Mrs. Eddy's writings that explains our theology.
Miscellany by Mary Baker Eddy
"What is the Principle of Christian Science? It is God, the Supreme Being, infinite and immortal Mind, the Soul of man and the universe. It is our Father, which is in heaven. It is substance, Spirit, Life, Truth, and Love, – these are the deific Principle."
"To live so as to keep human consciousness in constant relation with the divine, the spiritual, and the eternal, is to individualize infinite power; and this is Christian Science." |

|
Mary Baker Eddy founded The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts in 1879 and created a mandate in the Christian Science Manual for branch churches. Our church is one of these branches.
As a child, she was a dedicated student of the Bible and grew up in a religious family. She was healed instantaneously, after reading the account of one of Jesus' healings in the Bible, from internal injuries resulting from a fall on the ice when the medical prognosis was that she would not survive. She then spent three years studying the Bible, striving to discover how Jesus healed and how she had been healed. After she had tested her ideas by healing others and after a physician who had witnessed the healing of a patient on whom he had given up told her she should write a book to explain how she did this healing, she wrote Science and Health to enable others to be healed and to heal.

The Tenets of Christian Science, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy page 497.
1. As adherents of Truth, we take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life.
2. We acknowledge and adore one supreme and infinite God. We acknowledge His Son, one Christ; the Holy Ghost or divine Comforter; and man in God's image and likeness.
3. We acknowledge God's forgiveness of sin in the destruction of sin and the spiritual understanding that casts out evil as unreal. But the belief in sin is punished so long as the belief lasts.
4. We acknowledge Jesus' atonement as the evidence of divine, efficacious Love, unfolding man's unity with God through Christ Jesus the Way-shower; and we acknowledge that man is saved through Christ, through Truth, Life and Love as demonstrated by the Galilean prophet in healing the sick and overcoming sin and death.
5. We acknowledge that the crucifixion of Jesus and his resurrection served to uplift faith to understand eternal Life, even the allness of Soul, Spirit, and the nothingness of matter.
6. And we solemnly promise to watch, and pray for that Mind to be in us which was also in Christ Jesus; to do unto others as we would have them do unto us; and to be merciful, just, and pure. |
